Unable to import personal key on Android 11

Hi everyone,

I am unable to transfer my personal key to a new device with Android 11. I have tried two ways:

  • Importing the existing key from kontalk-keys.zip is not possible. I have copied kontalk-keys.zip to the Downloads folder of my new phone. Yet the file chooser dialog does not show the file in the folder.

  • Register device via QR code: Kontalk on the new phone ask for the key password. Yet it gets stuck in “Requesting account”. After using the return button a message appears: “Verification cancelled,
    you might recieve a SMS anyway.”

I would appreciate any help.

I’m having the same problem. I thought it was a network problem Chinese mainland.

I had the same problem, using Kontalk version 4.4.0. I found out this workaround:

  • remove Kontalk 4.4.0
  • install Kontalk 4.3.1
  • import your existing key
  • update Kontalk from 4.3.1 to 4.4.0
    Hope this will help you too.

PS This is not an Android 11 issue. It’s the same with Android 10 and LineageOS 16 (Android 9).
