Someone told me that Signal isn’t relying on Google anymore, is that true?

It appears that these issues remain though:

  • Signal not being shipped in f-droid
  • Signal/OWS cooperating with independent builds

I understand how this issue might overlap with the interests and concerns of users, but let’s try to keep the discussion relevant to Kontalk.
