About storing time of messages in servers

Hello.

If a message never arrives to a receiver: Does that message has an expiring time to be hosted in servers? Or will it be stored indefinitely?

not delivered messages will stored for 7 days.

Is it actually like a countdown for 168 hours or is it deleted when the 7th day ends?

It says storing for 7 days, so my understanding is that it gets deleted after the 168 hours have passed. But better for @daniele_athome to clear this up.

I can confirm that: every hour the database is checked for old messages and if the 168 hours have passed, they get deleted. Presently no error report (after the message expires) is sent to the sender though, that is scheduled to be implemented in the foreseeable future.
